Renowned Paralympian Oscar Pistorius shot Reeva Steenkamp in the early hours of Valentine’s Day, 14 February 2013.
Oscar maintains that he shot Reeva by accident because he thought there was an intruder hiding in the toilet cubicle.
However, some close neighbours testified that they heard the frantic screams of a woman in great distress coming from Oscar’s house. Then these screams went silent after a series of what sounded like gunshots.
The court dismissed the testimony of these neighbours as unreliable. Instead, they heard Oscar screaming after he discovered that he had mistakenly shot Reeva.
In their book Oscar vs The Truth brothers, Thomas and Calvin Mollett make a compelling argument that there was no good reason to dismiss the testimony of the neighbours.
They also highlight the many and significant inconsistencies in Oscar’s version – and also the evidence overlooked by the police and the State that points to a physical altercation between Reeva and Oscar prior to the shooting.
